SSCThose candidates who are preparing for SSC (CGL) 2014 Exam must prepare for the exam when the notification of the exam is out. If they prepare well during this time between notification publication and Preliminary exam, then they can easily clear the exam or might get better marks if they had prepared better. The candidates can also join some coaching center for better preparation which will help them in easily clearing the exam with better marks. It is important for every candidate to have the syllabus of the exam for better preparation. So since you are preparing for SSC CGL – 2014 , here is SSC CGL Syllabus and Eligibility Criteria…..

Scheme of the Examination For Combined Graduate Level Examination :

1st Tier : Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
2nd Tier : Main Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
3rd Tier : Personality Test /Interview or Skill Test, where applicable Candidates opting for post of Sub-Inspector in CPOs will be required to undergo Physical Endurance Test (PET)/Medical Examination at any convenient time after declaration of result of Tier I.

Combined Graduate Level (Tier I) Exam Pattern  : The written examination will consist of one objective type paper.

  • Type of Questions : Objective Multiple choice questions only.
  • No. of Questions : 200
  • Duration : 2 Hours (120 Minutes)

SSC CGL Tier I : This exam consists of the following sections. Each sections consists of 50 Questions.

General Intelligence & Reasoning :

  • No. of Question : 50
  • Maximum Marks : 50 Marks

General Awareness :

  • No. of Question : 50
  • Maximum Marks : 50 Marks

Numerical Aptitude :

  • No. of Question : 50
  • Maximum Marks : 50 Marks

English Comprehension :

  • No. of Question : 50
  • Maximum Marks : 50 Marks

Negative Marking : There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Syllabus For Combined Graduate Level(CGL) (Tier-I) Examination : Questions will be of Objective Multiple Type Choice. The questions will be set in Hindi/English in respect of 3 part .There are Four Section General Intelligence & Reasoning , General Awareness , Numerical Aptitute and English Comprehension.

General Intelligence & Reasoning : It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

General Awareness : Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to sports, History,
Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, scientific Research etc. These Questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

Numerical Aptitute : The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be the computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions and relationships between numbers. It will test sense of order among numbers, ability to translate from one name to another, sense or order of magnitude, estimation or prediction of the outcome of computation, selection of an appropriate operation for the solution of real life problems and knowledge of alternative computation procedures to find answers. The questions would also be based on arithmetical concepts and relationship between numbers and not on complicated arithmetical computation (The standard of the questions will be of 10+2 level).

English Comprehension : Questions in this components will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc), Vocabulary, Spellings, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Completion, Phrases and Idiomatic use of Words, etc. There will be a question on passages and omprehension of passages also.

Note : The questions in the components A,B & D will be of a level commensurate with the Essential Qualification prescribed for the post viz; graduation.

Essential Qualifications :

  • For Compiler : Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or Elective subject.
  • For Statistical Investigator Grade – II : Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at 12th standard level OR Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.
  • All other Posts : Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
